480 company Central forces to be deployed in phases from 1 March for WB Assembly elections

The Election Commission of India has decided to deploy 480 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, with induction scheduled in two phases beginning March 1. The forces will be tasked with area domination, confidence-building measures, poll day duties, guarding EVM and strong room centres, and securing counting venues across the state.

According to the deployment plan, 240 companies will be inducted by March 1, including 110 companies of CRPF, 55 of BSF, 21 of CISF, 27 of ITBP and 27 of SSB. Another 240 companies will follow by March 10, comprising 120 CRPF, 65 BSF, 16 CISF, 20 ITBP and 19 SSB units. De-induction of the 480 companies will be communicated at a later stage.

The State Government has been asked to prepare a detailed deployment plan in consultation with the respective CAPFs and the Chief Force Coordinator. Movement and deployment will be coordinated by CRPF. Of the nine sections in each CAPF company, eight will be assigned to polling stations and related duties, while one section will function as a Quick Reaction Team and for supervisory responsibilities under the Company Commander. Sanjay Yadav, IG, CRPF West Bengal Sector, has been appointed as the State Force Coordinator for the elections. The state has also been directed to arrange necessary transportation, logistics and accommodation for the forces.
